Objectives:
Students will be able to…..
1. see what brands they
truly prefer.
2. determine the probility
that one student will prefer a certain brand.
3. compare their results
to the class results.
Materials Needed:
_ 3 of each food product (must have a resemblance and taste similar)
o soda
o granola bar
o peanut butter cups
o salsa
o chocolate chip cookies
_ 80 dixie cups
_ water
_ paper plates
_ pencil
_ result chart
Introduction/Motivation:
At the start of class the students will receive instruction on what
needs to be accomplished in the 55 minitues they are in class. They
will have time to ask questions at the beginning of class and end.
The activity will be used as a motivator for the start of class.
Procedures:
1. Set up products to be tasted on trays with labels.
2. Provide water to be sipped between samples, so the flavor of one
sample wonít influence the flavor of the next sample.
3. Handout result chart for students to keep their results on.
4. Ask the students to move from table to table sampling the products
and recording data.
5. Instruct them not to speak during the activitie to assure accuracy,
no others students will influence ones decision.
6. Once the students have finished ask them to take their results back
to their seats and sit down.
7. The students will then report their findings to the class so we
can make a class chart.
8. After getting all the results of the students we will discuss the
proablitity that one student perfered a certain brand over another.
9. Annonce to the class the brand name of each product that was tested.
Practice:
Students will be using their knowledge of probability to graph the
information from the taste judging. After finding out the results
of their classmates they will be able to graph the results using excel.
Apply/Summary:
They will be graded up on completion of the activity. Participation
and their graphs will both be part of the final grade.
