Food Guide Pyramid Lesson

Objective:
Students will learn to……
1.eat
a variety of foods.
2.eat
plenty of fruits, vegetables, and grain products.
3.use
sugar only in moderation.
4.follow
the USDA dietary guidelines.
Introduction:
When students come into the classroom I will ask
them to choose their favorite food out of the box. The box is filled
with different fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and sweets. To
start class off I will ask the children how often they eat this favorite
food. We will share our answers in a discussion. Then I will
ask the students which food group their food belongs too. I will
then be able to gather information on how much the students know about
the food guide pyramid.
Procedure:
1. start class with the introduction.
2. give the students a handout that contains
all the notes
3. lecture over their handout, each food group
will be covered in detail
4. have the students complete differentiated
lesson based on interest

students can choose to create a food guide pyramid and draw in their favorite
foods from each group
-
students can choose to create a meal using a food from each food group;
they will be given paper food to color, cut and paste on a plate.
Summary:
Ask the students to identify one piece of knowledge
they learned in class today. Then hand students a piece of food from
the box and ask them to identify which food group it belongs to.
Assessment:
