Dr. Bob Boberton, Superintendent
Delta High School
Dear Dr. Boberton:
Enclosed you will find the budget proposal for the band department at Delta High School and Middle School. This proposal is to be carried out over the course of 5 years, beginning in 2005 through 2009.
This proposal is broken down into four sections. The first section is a summary of our anticipated purchases, student enrollment, and per year cost per student. Section Two is a breakdown of each line item, detailing specific items with their expected cost. Section Three is a proposed timeline for when the purchases will take place. The final section provides detailed information about the items contained within the budget request.
It should be noted that and students represent nearly twenty percent of the total Delta Middle School enrollment, and ten percent of the total high school enrollment. Figures included in this budget proposal indicate a very low per student per year expense.
The material presented in Section Four is a concise description of the intended items of purchase. Should you have any questions about the items at a later date, please contact me, and I will reply promptly. It is my avid desire that you seriously consider how every item included here will benefit the education of the students, and the band program as a whole. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Todd Neuenschwander

Specific Information
NEW EQUIPMENT
Conga Drums Much of the music being written today in jazz band and concert band settings is calling for conga drums. The instrument will be used in all six of our ensembles. Life expectancy of conga drums is 15 years.
4 Flugelhorns Many jazz band pieces require the use of flugelhorns in the trumpet section. Flugelhorns add a tone and timbre that cannot be matched by another instrument. Life expectancy is 10 years.
Bass Trombone A bass trombone is a necessity in a jazz ensemble. There are also many concert band pieces that require its use. Life expectancy for the instrument is 10 years.
Bell Tree Every year higher demands are placed on percussion sections with regards to instrumentation. The bell tree will help us to fulfill one more aspect of the percussion section. Life expectancy of the instrument is 15 years.
Vibraphone Much of the concert band and jazz band literature calls for the use of a vibraphone. It is an instrument with a very unique sound that cannot be matched with other instruments. Life expectancy is 15 years.
Crotales Crotales are a very distinctive instrument that will add much to the sound of our concert band. Having the crotales will also open up our options of literature selection. Live expectancy of the instrument is 15 years.
Large Screen Television Self-assessment and reflection is important to the educational experience of the music students. This television will provide us a means by which to effectively evaluate our performances in class.
Hand Truck This hand truck will provide with a way to move our equipment around more easily. Life expectancy of the hand truck is 30 years or more.
Music Storage Cabinets As our performance repertoire increases, so does the need for effective storage and filing systems. These cabinets will help with the general organization of the music library. Life expectancy is 30 years or more.
REAPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT
Bass Amp The bass amp we have now is not sufficient for todayıs standards. The new amp will allow a great tone coming from the rhythm section of the jazz band. Life expectancy is 10-15 years.
Keyboard Amp Just as with the bass amp, we need a keyboard amp that is capable of producing a great tone that will enhance the sound of our jazz band. Life expectancy is 10-15 years.
Drum Heads We need to replace the existing drum heads with newer, fuller sounding heads. This replacement includes heads for our bongo drums, drum sets, snare drums, bass drum, and concert toms. Life expectancy for the drum heads is 5 years.
REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE
Tenor Sax Reconditioning Saxophones should have a complete overhaul every 5 years. Doing so will greatly increase the life of the instrument and is significantly less costly than purchasing new instruments.
Tuba Reconditioning Two of our three tubas are in poor condition and are in serious need of reconditioning. The instruments are essential to the performance of any literature for concert band.
Bass Clarinet Reconditioning One of our two bass clarinets is in need of complete reconditioning. The fee for doing so is significantly lower than that of purchasing a new instrument.
Eb Clarinet Reconditioning The Eb clarinet is becoming increasingly important in todayıs literature. Reconditioning the instrument will add many years to its life expectancy.
Drum Set Tom Shells Recovering The toms on the pep band drum set need to be recovered. The condition they are in now affects both the look and the sound quality coming from the instrument.
Minor Repairs The following instruments are in need of minor repairs to maintain usability and avoid more expensive repairs in the future: Bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, baritone sax, soprano sax.
