Profile:Walt Disney Company is one of the most diverse companies in the world today. Their holdings can be broken down into five main branches: Media networks, studio entertainment, theme parks and resorts, consumer products, and internet and direct marketing.

The Walt Disney Company has many different media networks. They owns and operates ABC television and 225 stations affiliated to them. With these holdings they are able to reach 99.9% of the household in the U.S. They also hold ownership in all ABC radio networks which reach around 147 million listners. With these stations they have 8,900 program affiliates and 4,400 radio stations.

The Walt Disney Company also has its hand not only in radio and television media but also in the realm of cable networking. They are primarily involved in the distribution and production of cable programs. They own these various cable networks: Disney channel, Toon Disney, Soapnet, 80% of ESPN, 37.5% of A&E television, 50% of Lifetime, and 39.6% of E! television.

The second branch of the Walt Disney empire is in studio entertainment. This branch develops live as well as animated motion pictures but that's not all they also create various television programs, musical recordings and stage plays. To do this, Disney owns such companies as Miramax, Touchstone, Hollywood, Dimension, and of course Walt Disney pictures. With all these titles Walt Disney Company has created 568 live action features, 38 animated features and 483 cartoon shorts, not bad mickey!

But movies and cartoons are not all that is behind Disney's studio entertainment. They also create many CD's and audiocassettes with its main area of expertise in motion picture soundtracks and educational read alongs. This is mainly done with Hollywood records but Disney also owns lyric street records in Nashville.

Last but not least in the studio entertainment branch their is the wonderful Broadway plays produced. Such plays as the love inspiring "Beauty and the Beast" or the long time running "Lion King" musical on Broadway.

Although all these things show how diversified the company is it does not take away the constant that Disney stands for, fun. When someone thinks of Disney they don't see radio, T.V. etc... but they think theme parks and resorts that's what brings us to our next branch of the Disney tree.

The Walt Disney company still holds true to its roots in the amount of entertainment and amusement they create geared for the people. They own: Walt Disney World Resort, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney MGM, Disney Animal Kingdom, Blizzard Beach, River Country, Typhoon Lagoon, Disney's Wide World of Sports, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Vacation Club(opp. for ownership of land), Disney Land Resort, The ESPN Zone, Disney Quest, Tokyo Disney Resort (royalties), Euro-Disney(royalties), Walt Disney Imagineering(planning and real estate), Anaheim Sports Inc.(Hockey: The Mighty Ducks, Baseball: The Anaheim Angels).

Consumer products is another big business with the Walt Disney Company. They have liscenses on the companies characters and intellectual property. Which they use for merchandising and publications. They market their products through several different avenues. One being the Disney Store. The Disney store sells Disney related products. They also use publications and own Buena Vista publishing group. This group creates magazines such as FamilyFun, Disney Adventures and Discover. They also produce the widely popular ESPN magazine.

Disney Interactive is probably one of the one pieces of the Walt Disney puzzle I know the best because they create Disney related software and more importantly they create video games, Thanx guys!

Finally, ending this little? tour with the final branch of the Disney family and that is its paving the way in the millenium in Internet and Direct marketing. The Disney company created the Buena Vista Internet company and later bought Infoseek with the two they launched go.com.

Some of the internet sites that can be found by the Disney Company are as follows: Disney.com, Family.com, ESPN.com, ABCNEWS.com, ABCSports.com, DisneyStore.com, Disney Travel Online, and the ESPNStore.com.

That concludes the profile of the Walt Disney Company. All information above was found within the SEC EDGAR files.
