Policy and Procedures

The Office of Information Technology Security and Policy works with and in accordance to the Ball State Community in effort to provide a comprehensive set of information sharing procedures, guidelines and policies for all faculty, staff and students to abide by.  The fore mentioned documents are published in the spirit of common sense and courtesy and apply to any shared computing services resource.   Service providers outside of UCS may supplement these documents with a more unit-specific guideline, but do not supersede them. 

All users in the Ball State Community have the responsibility to uphold all policies in an effective, efficient, ethical, and legal manner.

The Computer User Privileges and Responsibilities  reflects the general ethical principles of the University community and indicates; in general, what privileges and responsibilities are characteristic of the University computing environment.  All individuals wishing to use any computing resources at the University should review the document.

In a highly connected and distributed environment such as Ball State University, the security and auditability of information systems is of pinnacle importance.  Because of the tremendous risk unsecured information systems present, it is imperative every server and system comply with standards, procedures, and practices required for acquisition, development, and deployment of production information systems at Ball State University.

The procedures and standards presented in the Standards and Procedures manual are necessitated by regulatory compliance obligations, as well as institutional needs for systems integration and supportability.  Any questions in regards to the procedures and standards can be directed to the Office of Information Security Services (IOSS), within University Computing Services.
