Do Your Doctorate Where Teaching and Research Make a Difference

Part-time Study

With careful planning, part-time students can complete their program, including the residency requirement, within the degree's seven-year limit. In fact, pursuing the degree part-time allows students to not only work full-time but also gain valuable experience in support of their doctoral studies.

For example,

  • Students in the science doctorate might work at an environmentally-oriented public or private sector job that supports their studies in field biology, geology or natural resources,
  • A student in physics or computer science might be employed as a programmer,
  • Similarly, someone employed full-time in the health field might pursue a major in physiology, or
  • Classroom teachers or community college faculty in mathematics or chemistry could complete a doctorate in their field.
