| Tools
The tool menu contains selections tools, painting and editing tools, foreground and background color selection boxes, and viewing tools.
Some of the main tools that will be used are Marquee, Move, Eraser, and Text.

| Palettes
Palettes help you monitor and modify images. To view particular palettes, click on the Window menu and check the palette you wish to view.
Some of the main palettes that will be used are the Navigation, Color, History and Layers. |

| Top Menu
When you choose a tool, the menu at the top changes to give you options. Below is an example of a top menu when using the Text tool. You can change the orientation, font, style, size, alignment, color, and wrap using the top menu. |

HOW TO CROP, SAVE and
ADJUST IMAGE SIZE
Crop
To crop a picture use the marquee tool to select the desired portion of your picture. After selection, choose crop in the image menu to finish the action.

Save for Web
To save a picture for web, choose save for web in the file menu. Inside the menu, choose JPEG for picture files and GIF for illustrations. *NOTE: a photograph with text added becomes an illustration. Depending on the size of the photograph, quality can be chosen to ensure that your picture will load in eight seconds or less on a 28.8k modem. |

| Image Size
For News 201, Image Size should not exceed 250 pixels on either height or width. If you feel the image is too large, changes to size can be made in the Image Menu under the Image sub-menu.

Resolution
When saving for web, remember that a pictures resolution should be no higher than 72 dpi. You are able to change resolution under the image size menu shown above.
