Introduction: |
To
successfully complete this course, there are a few specific supplies, resources and
pieces of equipment or software you will need. To help you understand these
needs, I will provide them in simple list form. If additional information
is necessary, a short explanation will be provided. |
|||
|
Equipment: |
You will need or should have access to the following:
| (1) | A computer (Mac or PC) with the following requirements: | |||
| (a) | A 133MHz processor (minimum). | |||
| (b) | Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, Netscape Navigator 4.7 or higher, or other Browser. | |||
| (c) | Microsoft Office 97 or higher -- including Word and PowerPoint (with all clipart, sound, and video files loaded). A full load will not typically load all clip art, sound, and video files. Check your CD and/or instructions for loading all clipart, sound, and video files | |||
| (d) | Real Player
is needed to view many of the Blackboard tutorials. If you do not already have
Real Player loaded on your computer, click on the link at the begging of
this paragraph to go to the Real
Player free download site. (http://www.real.com/) You will also need Acobat Reader or similar program to view any pdf files. "Acrobat® 5.0 software lets you save virtually any document — from a simple Microsoft Word file to a CAD drawing to a graphically rich brochure — in compact Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). E-mail Adobe PDF files or post them to your Web site, and feel confident that they can be viewed and printed by anyone, anywhere across a broad range of hardware and software." Click here for a free download of Acrobat Reader. (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html) |
|||
| (e) | Dial-Up or Broadband connection to the Internet. | |||
| (f) | When working with materials on the
Web some files seem to work better or "open" easier when using Netscape
and some files seem to work better using Internet Explorer or AOL. If your
computer does not currently have Netscape or Explorer loaded, I recommend
that you go to the following sites for free downloads for each program --
Netscape 7.0 or higher
and Internet
Explorer. http://www.downloadalot.com/?netscape http://wp.netscape.com/computing/download/index.html?cp=hop05ft6 http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/ie6/default.asp? FinishURL=%2Fdownloads%2Frelease% 2Easp%3Freleaseid%3D32210%26area%3Dtop%26or dinal%3D2%26redirect%3Dno Thus, if a course file does not open through Netscape try it through Explorer. If that still doesn't work simply try typing in the URL for that site. |
|||
| (f) | For Mac users Apple QuickTime 5.0. | |||
| (g) | Shockwave 7.0.2 or
higher. http://sdc.shockwave.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi? |
|||
| (h) | All students should gain access to their free elementk account through Ball State University's Technology Training Support center located in the Library. elementk gives you access to free tutorials on over 20 computer programs, including PowerPoint. To gain access to elementk simply perform the following: | |||
| 1. | Go to elementk.com online and
click on Student Enrollment. http://www.elementk.com/ |
|||
| 2. | Enter access key 7636-etrain-1123. | |||
| 3. | Fill out the enrollment form. | |||
| 4. | Use your BSU User ID_bsu. "Example asimth_bsu" | |||
| 5. | You should now have access to your personal 24/7 e-leanring community. | |||
| 6. | If you need assistance call the BSU Helpdesk at 765-285-5653. | |||
| (2) | A color ink jet printer. | |||
| (3) | A digital camera. | |||
| (4) | A color scanner. | |||
| (5) | VHS Camcorder. | |||
|
Email: |
You will often be communicating to me and other students through email and the Blackboard Discussion Board. Thus, one of the first things you need to do is:
| (1) | Arrange for a valid Ball State User Name and Password. If you do not already have one, you can call the BSU Help Desk at 1-866-771-3276 for assistance. | |||
| (2) | You will need a valid
email account. If you do not use Ball State Email, you will need to
forward your email messages to your current email account by clicking here. (http://www.bsu.edu/perlweb/exchange/forward.pl) |
|||
| (3) | Additional information
on Blackboard, how to use it effectively, and establishing a proper email
address can be located at the following tutorial: http://www.bsu.edu/web/iandt/tutorial/default.htm |
|||
|
Materials: |
During the course you will need the following materials:
| (1) | Two to three Zip 100 or 250 Disks and/or a CD Burner. | |||
| (2) | Two to three 1.44MBHD floppy disks. | |||
| (3) | Color inkjet transparency film for your printer. | |||
| (4) | 2 VHS video tapes. | |||
|
Research Assistance: |
The Ball State University Libraries recently announced a new service to assist with student and faculty research needs. Library professionals will give you one-on-one assistance with your research needs including finding online databases and journals, Internet resources, and library materials. There is no software to download, and the service is free! Go to the BSU Libraries' Web site and click on "Ask a Librarian" at http://www.bsu.edu/library.
|
Other: |
Other miscellaneous requirements include;
| (1) | Access to students
(K-12, undergraduate, graduate, workers in a training session,
etc.). Note: During this class you are required to teach 2-3 lessons. You will need access to a population of learners. |
|||
| (2) | Someone to help you videotape your lessons when required by the assignment. | |||
