English 345: Studies in Early American Literature

MWF 1-1:50 p.m.
Fall semester 2006
Dr. Robert Habich

Early American writers depicted the colonial and early national experience in a surprising variety of narratives: histories, travel stories, captivity narratives, biographies and autobiographies, “domestic” novels, novels of seduction and revenge, even plays (if we stretch the genre just a bit). In this class we will read a number of early American narratives and conclude by examining the re-presenting of early American culture in the nineteenth century in novels such as Hawthorne’s House of the Seven Gables. Contact Dr. Habich with any questions at rhabich@bsu.edu.

Prerequisite: English 210 and 230 or permission of instructor.

ENG 345 has been cancelled for fall semester 2006.
