Who are the students and what are their needs?

Burris Lab School is a K-12 public school in Muncie, Indiana. The high school where Alex teaches has approximately 180 students (@ 4- 45 students per grade level). The science curriculum at Burris only offers 4 courses (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Advanced Environmental Science). Core 40 requirements include 3 science classes. Consequently, Alex has students in his Chemistry and Physics classes that might not traditionally be in this level of class.

This lead to challenging circumstances for Alex to include students with learning disabilities with gifted students thinking at highly abstract levels. Understanding that students learn in very different ways and timelines helped Alex structure his classroom and use of technologies to support their progress.
