Imagine a society without multimedia, where
telecommunications would be virtually non-existent. Can't do it? That is
no surprise, because many forms of multimedia have been around since most
of us have been alive. After growing accustomed to it for as long as we have,
it would be very hard to live without it.
With that in mind, multimedia could only grow even more,
as the possibilities are boundless. Everything will continue on the path
to digitization until computers and computer processes are ubiquitous. The
next age in society just may in fact be the "Digital Age". Internet will
become even faster, if you can fathom that. Soon enough, VHS tapes and cassettes
will become obsolete by the hand of DVDs and CDs, much the way eighttracks
did in the last fifth of the 20th century. Homes around America will be equipped
with the most superlative of home entertainment systems, making todays typical
entertainment system look like the "boombox" of yesterday. People will continue
to indulge in the personalization phenomenon, but must be careful not to
over indulge to prevent cultural segregation. Cable TV will no longer exist,
as dish and broadband services will take over and become yet another staple
in a typical household. All these events would only mark the beginning, one
could only hope to imagine what could come next.
