Phases 4b and 5
Phase 4b Test Results
Test your hypothesis with bivariate and multivariate statistics.
It is required to include the test results inserted into the text of your paper.
Make sure to label each table.
Nominal/Ordinal
Variables
Bivariate Statistics
1) Produce a crosstab for your main hypothesis. (Do not forget to insert the output table.)
2) Do the results support the main hypothesis? Make sure to discuss the following:
a. Is the association statistically significant?
b. What is your interpretation of the measure of association?
-Discuss the strength of association.
-Discuss the direction of association.
c. Interpret the results substantively by using percentages.
3) Repeat the above for the alternative hypotheses (Both Rival 1 and 2)
Multivariate Statistics
1) Test your hypothesis by controlling for another variable (here, you can treat one of the variables in your rival hypothesis as a control). Do not forget to insert the output table. Do the results support the main hypothesis after controlling for another variable? Make sure to discuss the following:
a. Statistical significance after controlling for another variable.
b. The measure of association
Discuss the strength of association.
Discuss the direction of association.
c. Interpret the results substantively by using percentages.
Note: It is not necessary to repeat the above for the other control variable.
Interval/Ratio
Variables
Bivariate Statistics
1) Obtain a measure of association. Run a bivariate regression model. (Do not forget to insert the tables.) Do the results support the main hypothesis? Make sure to discuss the following:
a. Is the association statistically significant? What is the significance level?
b. What is your interpretation of the slope coefficient?
c. Interpret the adjusted R2.
3) Repeat 1) and 2) for the alternative hypotheses (Rival 1, 2)
Multivariate Statistics
4) Run a multiple regression model. Test your main hypothesis by controlling for the other two variables. Here, you are required to include the two variables that are treated as the independent variables in the rival hypotheses. Do the results support the main hypothesis after controlling for the other two variables? (Do not forget to insert a table for the results.) Make sure to discuss the following:
a. Is the main independent variable statistically significant after adding the control variables?
b. What is your interpretation of the slope coefficient for the main independent variable?
c. What is the direction of association for the main independent variable?
d. Interpret the adjusted R2.
e. What are your interpretations of the control variables?
5) Example of a table

Note:
1. Make sure that the numbers in each table are lined up correctly.
2. Phase 4b should be about 3-6 pages using 12 point font
(Use either Times New Roman or Arial). Do not adjust margin sizes.
3. Save your work in disks (Make sure to have multiple backups). You will be responsible for a lost disk.
4. Make sure to write in paragraph format.
Phase 5
Conclusion/Final Product
A. Put together all the parts from the previous phases. Integrate the parts so that it flows like a complete paper and add a conclusion. Make sure to delete the word “phase” and replace it with a subtitle.
e.g.
Phase 1 – Introduction
Phase 2 – Theory and hypotheses
Phase 3 – Operationalization
Phase 4a – Description of data
Phase 4b – Test results
Phase 5 – Conclusion
B. Phase 3: Delete the tables. Make sure to describe the deleted tables in the text.
C. Phase 5: In the conclusion you should discuss your findings and whether your original hypothesis is supported by your analysis. Looking back on your expectations, does your theory or hypothesis need revising? Explain. How did the alternative rival hypothesis fair? The conclusion should be at least one double-spaced page.
D. Include any revisions if you had comments on earlier phases. Do not just staple the old phases together. Papers of this nature will not be accepted. Instead you need to save previous phases and merge them together. Include a title page that specifies the name of the research project, your name and section number. You should also number the pages.
Note:
1. Make sure to write in paragraph format.
2. Attach the bibliography at the end of the paper. You should create a separate bibliography page.
3. Staple your final paper together and attach the original phases to your final paper by using a paper clip (Do not use a binder).
4. Please do not send your assignments by using e-mail.
5. Overall, present your paper professionally.
