Phase 4
Statistical Analyses
This
component of the research paper focuses on the statistical analysis of your
hypotheses. Essentially, you are required to use (almost) every statistical
technique we cover in this class.
Phase 4a Descriptive (Univariate)
Statistics
1.
Descriptive Statistics
A. Nominal
or ordinal variables
a) Produce a frequency table that pertains to the dependent variable and
describe it. Describe the table with percentages. Do not forget to label the table.
b). Describe the variable with
central tendency and variability measures.
c). Please indicate whether there
are a large number of missing cases. You are also required to discuss whether
or not there is an enough variation within the variable. Discuss whether or not
any of these factors may bias your findings.
d) Repeat a)-c) for the independent
variables.
B.
Interval/ratio variables
a) Produce a histogram that pertains to your dependent variable. Discuss
whether or not the variable is skewed.
b). Describe the variable with
central tendency and variability measures. (If the variable is skewed, make
sure to include the median in your discussion.)
c). Please indicate whether there are a large number of missing cases.
You are also required to discuss whether or not there is an enough variation
within the variable. Discuss whether or not any of these factors may bias your
findings.
d) d)
Repeat a)-c) for the independent variables.
-Make sure
to describe four variables (Y, X1, X2, and X3).
-You can
only use a single dataset.
-You are
not testing your hypotheses in this phase. You are only describing each
variable separately. (i.e. Neither crosstabs
nor correlation statistics are not acceptable.)
-Make sure
to write in paragraph format.
-Make sure
that the numbers in each table are lined up correctly.
Note:
1. Phase 4a
should be about 2-5 pages using 12 point font (Use either Times New Roman or
Arial). Do not adjust margin sizes.
2. Attach
Assignment 9 (Prep Phase 4a).
2. Staple
(Do not use a binder).
3. Save
your work in disks (Make sure to have multiple backups). You will be
responsible for a lost disk.
4. At the
end of the semester, you will turn in your paper by combining the phases. You
will be asked to turn in the original phases with your final paper. In other
words, you need to keep your original phases with my comments after I return
them to you.
5. Please
do not send your assignments using e-mail.
6. Overall,
present your paper professionally.
