Maths 499: Reading and Honors (1-8)

Syllabus

 

1. Prerequisite: approval of the department chairperson.  A total of 8 hours of credit may be earned.  Open only to juniors and seniors. 

 

2. Course Description: Juniors and seniors, with the approval of the mathematical sciences department, may enroll for special advanced work not offered in courses at the 300- and 400-levels. 

 

3. Course Objective: to give advanced students the opportunity to study important mathematical subjects that are not treated in the Department’s scheduled courses, under the sponsorship of a faculty member.

 

4. Course Rationale:  the Department offers this course to address the individual needs and interests of students.

 

5. Course Content: determined by the student and faculty sponsor. 

 

6. Course Format: independent study.

 

7. Method of Evaluating Student Performance:  at the discretion of the faculty sponsor.

 

8. Evaluation of the Course:  The course is reviewed and revised periodically by the Departmental Undergraduate Programs Committee.
