This scholarship was established to honor the life of Otto W. Beebe, son of Louisa and Waldo F. Beebe. Otto graduated from Burris Laboratory School, with Honors from Ball State University and received his master’s degree in mathematics from Purdue University. During his Ball State days, Otto earned a letter running for the men’s track team. He enjoyed a successful career prior to retiring as an engineering manager at Siemens in Orlando Florida. Otto lost a long battle with cancer in 2000 and is survived by his wife, Judy Beebe of Daytona Beach, Florida, and three adult children. Otto loved sailing.
Incoming freshmen who declare a major in the Mathematical Sciences will automatically be considered for this scholarship. Scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years if academic standards are met.
This scholarship is in honor of Dr. John A and his wife Jane K. Beekman. Dr. Beekman is the Lincoln National Corporation Emeritus Professor of Actuarial Science. Professor Beekman began his 33-year career at Ball State University in 1963 as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics. He went on to found the Actuarial Science program at Ball State University in 1970. Throughout the years, Dr. Beekman became well known for his research, consulting, and most of all for his teaching. Incoming freshmen who declare a major in Actuarial Science and apply for the Edwards Memorial Scholarship will automatically be considered for this scholarship. Scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years if academic standards are met.
This scholarship was created in memory of Professor Shively who was a respected faculty member in the Department of Mathematical Sciences for 23 years. Incoming freshmen who declare a major in the Mathematical Sciences will automatically be considered for this scholarship. Dr. John Beekman, Professor Emeritus, was the founder of the actuarial science program at Ball State University. Scholarships have been established to honor Dr. Beekman’s many contributions. Steve Meyers was a student of Dr. John Beekman and joined the actuarial profession upon graduation from Ball State University. Steve has been a strong supporter of Ball State’s Actuarial Science program. This scholarship was created to honor Dr. Beekman’s contributions to his students and the actuarial profession. Incoming freshmen who declare a major in Actuarial Science will automatically be considered for this scholarship. Dr. Ramon A. Avila, Professor Emeritus, was a longtime faculty member of the Department, having served from 1962 until his retirement in 1996. This scholarship was established to honor his contributions to students and the Department. Incoming freshmen who declare a major in Mathematics Education and apply for the Edwards Memorial Scholarship will automatically be considered for this scholarship. Scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years if academic standards are met.
