Edwards Memorial Scholarships

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers at least six new Edwards Scholarships to incoming freshmen each year. These awards of $2,300 per year are renewable for up to three additional years. An application packet may be found as a PDF file by clicking here. (Click here if you need to download Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader software.) We strongly encourage anyone considering majoring in our department to apply.

The Edwards Memorial Scholarships encourage outstanding freshmen to enter Ball State and complete a major in a program directed by the Department of Mathematical Sciences. The endowment for these scholarships was established by Harry and Jane Edwards McColm in Memory of P. D. Edwards, chairman of the department from 1951 to 1962.

  • give assurances that the prerequisites for MATHS 165 (Calculus I) will be completed before leaving high school.
  • submit a completed application form together with an essay, typewritten or word-processed and approximately 500 words in length, explaining their interest in mathematics and choice of a major in the mathematical sciences.
