Colloquia and Seminars

UNDERGRADUATE COLLOQUIUM SERIES
A series independent weekly lectures introducing topics in all areas of the mathematical sciences. Several of the lectures will focus on the use of mathematics or the role of mathematicians in the workplace. The lectures are presented by faculty, visiting mathematicians, and Ball State students. These talks are usually held on Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. in RB449.

FACULTY COLLOQUIUM SERIES
A series of occasional research oriented lectures intended primarily for faculty and graduate students. Advanced undergraduates are encouraged to attend as well. The lectures are presented by Ball State faculty and visiting faculty from other institutions.

FACULTY/STUDENT SEMINAR
Faculty and advanced students work together on a topic that is not covered in any formal course offerings. Lectures are prepared by student-faculty teams and presented by both students and faculty. This semester's topic is the classical book by Rademacher and Toeplitz, "The Enjoyment of Math" ("Von Zahlen und Figuren" in the original). The seminar meets at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesdays in RB447. Among the topics studied in the past terms were wavelets, quantum computers, distribution of prime numbers, and geometry of space-time.
