CALCULUS PRESENTATION

Performance Assessment for Teaching Majors in Mathematics

Decision Point 2

OVERVIEW

One of the requirements that Teaching Majors in Mathematics must satisfy in order to pass through Decision Point 2 is to prepare and give a 10-15 minute presentation about a topic from elementary calculus.  Three faculty members from the Department of Mathematical Sciences will attend the calculus presentation and use a rubric to assess the student's communication skills and mathematical content knowledge.  The notes and artifacts from the presentation will be included in student's teaching portfolio, as well as the evaluation and feedback given by the faculty committee.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the calculus presentation is for students to demonstrate aspects of their mathematical understanding and their written and oral communication skills.
