Okay...I understand that everyone is upset about the whole spam issue...especially the wonderful Penis Enlargement messages...and the considerate "wholesale viagra" emails.  Below are some tips to help reduce your spam intake:
  1. Do not use your main email address when filling out forms for "free giveaways".  I promise, you will get spam because of it.  Nothing is free.
  2. Tell your friends to stop sending you e-cards.  This means that they typed your email into a form on a webpage that offers a free service...how do you think that webpage makes money?  By selling the email addresses it collects.
  3. Do not have your email address typed out on a webpage...i.e. edgar@allen.com ...little applets called spiders search the WWW for bits of text in the x@y.com format and harvests them.  Use this instead...email me here...with the text pointing to your email address.
  4. Ask your fiends not to send you chain letters or petitions via email.
  5. Etiquette dictates that if you wish to send everyone in your email address book a message, you should send it to yourself and put the slew of email addresses in the BCC field...so as not to publish each person's address to everyone else in your address book.
  6. Trust me, AOL/Bill Gates/The Easter Bunny/Michael Eisner/God/The Gap is not sending you a check for $250/$500/$1000 just for filling out this form.  SCAM SCAM SCAM.
  7. Start fresh with a new email address.
