The Racers interdisciplinary team is proposing a unit on Mayan civilization to be presented to the 6th grade class at Burris Middle School. The disciplines involved in the unit are Geography, Spanish, Technology , and Language Arts.

Spanish - Explore diferent facets of Mayan Culture and Civilization though the Spanish language. Identify different Mayan gods, explore their lifestyle, learn the vocabulary for terms related to this theme.

Geography - Explore the geographic location of the Mayans.This includes their physical surroundings and where they are located in the world. Also, both the historical and present day culture and geographic issues will be addressed.

Language Arts - Address writing and cultural aspects of past and present Mayan culture. Lessons will include culture, writing, diversity, ceremonies (past and present), and social issues.
