Give Your
Child the Gift of Music
Students in the Greater Muncie Area now have an opportunity to learn to play a stringed instrument at minimal cost. The Ball State String Project offers group and private lessons on violin, viola, cello, and bass. No previous musical experience is needed. Group classes are offered once a week for all experience levels. Students with no previous experience will be placed in the Beginning class. Students with less than one year's playing experience will be in the Intermediate class. More experienced players have the opportunity to be in a Chamber Music Group. Teaching
opportunities for Ball State Music Education students
Undergraduate teaching assistants from Ball State University assist with the classes and give private instruction to String Project students. Our Master Teacher, Mary Kothman, supervises all the Teaching Assistants. As their expertise increases, Teaching Assistants will assume responsibility for a portion of the class, a whole lesson, or for a group. Private instruction is arranged at the convenience of the Teaching Assistant and the parents of the learner. Private lessons last one half hour per week. Project Director, Kristin Turner, supervises the private teachers. String Project
joins the Muncie Center for the Arts
Group classes are held on Mondays each week at the Muncie Center for the Arts, 520 East Main Street in Muncie. Beginning classes and Chamber Music meet at 4:00 while Intermediate and Low Strings classes meet at 5:00. Students who would like to play but cannot afford an instrument may get one through the MCA. Contact Kitty Johnson, MCA Educational Director, at 286-5347, ext. 32 for more information. At the end of each semester, all students will participate in a recital where our players can demonstrate what they have learned. Some students may perform solos, the Chamber Ensemble will play several selections, and the whole group will play together.
