Welcome to my Web! It basically serves no purpose except as a place for me to put things out there that are important to me; maybe not to you, but I hope they are at least of interest to you. Briefly, I am an archaeologist currently residing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am also a historian for the Air National Guard, currently serving in the 171 Air Refueling Wing, Pennsylvania Air National Guard There is much more about me, including some of my views on archaeology in the About Me section. Also, for those of you interested in what I and others close to me look like, I have placed a few photographs in the Photos section. The Archaeology section is pretty much a free-flowing thing. I may stick an essay that I've written, or an essay that someone else has written (but given me permission to reprint), or maybe just some links to interesting topics. I'm not sure where that section will go; it just seemed appropriate for my Web site to have such a link. My Curriculum Vitae is rather self-explanatory, as is the Publications section. Currently, Publications is a bit misleading, since I haven't actually published anything. It is currently simply a list of papers I have presented. Hopefully, however, it will one day include publications, and then I don't have to change the link! Lastly I have included a page of Links that are primarily archaeological and anthropological, but other ones that I find interesting as well. It is also obligatory to have a Links page on a Web page!
A soldier named Nobushige came to Hakuin, the Zen master, and asked: “Is there really a paradise and a hell?” “Who are you?” inquired Hakuin. “I am a samurai,” the warrior replied. “You, a soldier!” exclaimed Hakuin. “What kind of ruler would have you as his guard? Your face looks like that of a beggar!” Nobushige became so angry that he began to draw his sword, but Hakuin continued: “So you have a sword! Your weapon is probably much too dull to cut off my head.” As Nobushige drew his sword Hakuin remarked: “Here open the gates of hell!” At these words the samurai, perceiving the master's discipline, sheathed his sword and bowed. “Here open the gates of paradise,” said Hakuin.
