Caravel

A caravel is a type of ship invented by the Portuguese in the 1400s. The caravel is a small ship and has three masts. The sails on the ship could either be lateen (triangular shaped) or square (square or rectangular) sails. Two of the ships that Columbus used to sail to the new world were Spanish caravels, the Nina and the Pinta.
