Math Club Constitution

Article I: Name
    Section 1: The name of this organization shall be the Ball State Mathematical Sciences Club.

Article II: Purpose
   
Section 1: The purpose of this organization is fourfold: To provide opportunities for intellectual stimulation and contacts outside the classroom setting; To provide students with current information that pertains to their area of interest; To provide s social setting of interaction between all mathematical sciences majors and minors.
   
Section 2: This club is a charter student chapter of the Mathematics Association of America (MAA).

Article III: Membership
   
Section 1: The membership shall be comprised of any student or faculty interested in any area of the mathematical sciences.
   
Section 2: This organization shall not use as a basis for membership race, sex, religion, color, national origin, physical or mental handicap, age, or status as a a Vietnam Era Veteran.

Article IV: Officers
   
Section 1: The executive committee shall consist of four (4) offices. The selection process will be majority vote in the Spring with candidates being nominated and of at least sophomore status for term of service.
   
Section 2: Those four offices will be President, a Vice President, a Treasurer, and a Secretary. Their duties are described below:
a.) The President shall be the student who presides over meetings and oversees the functions of the Club.
b.) The Vice-President shall preside over the general committees.
c.) The Treasurer, is responsible for collection of dues, payment of bills, and submission of the annual financial report to the Business Affairs Office of the university.
d.) The Secretary is responsible for minutes and general correspondence within the university and outside.
   
Section 3: The officers shall hold office for one academic school year beginning in the fall after spring elections.

Article V: Meetings
   
Section 1: The general meetings shall be held monthly.
   
Section 2: Executive committee meetings shall be held at the call of the President with the approval of the officers and faculty advisors.

Article VI: Amendments
   
Section 1: In order to amend the constitution, the proposal must be presented at least one meeting prior to vote.
   
Section 2: In order for an amendment to be passed, a three-fourths affirmative vote for those present is required.

Bylaws
1.) Corporate and alumni membership are available. These members have all rights of regular members except voting rights.
2.) Any dues shall be set by the officers at the beginning of each academic year.
3.) One-half plus one of the membership constitutes a quorum.
4.) A quorum must be present to pass amendments to the constitution.
5.) Bylaws may be amended by a majority vote of the membership.
6.) Membership in the national MAA is not required, but highly recommended, dues for which will be collected prior to the December meeting.
7.) Faculty are non-voting members.
