| Lynda Schiff,
Hello,
This lesson was created for a fifth grade class. The standard for
this lesson in under The Living Environment: Diversity of Life benchmark.
It states, "A great variety of kinds of living things can be sorted into
groups in many ways using various features to decide which things belong
to which group.”
The lesson is supposed to give the students an overview of the characteristics
of biomes. The students are given facts about each biome. The
book corner web page gives a couple of books for each biome. This
will help the students learn more about the animals, plants, and temperatures
within each biome.
In the web problem activity, the students will be looking through websites
that talk about the wildlife in different places in the world. The
students will connect the information for this lesson to the information
they find on other websites. Through this activity students should
learn how to identify the features of each biome and the wildlife within
that biome. The hands-on activity can be done first or last.
It might be helpful for the students to look at the web pages on the web
problem page before working on this activity. The students could
use both pages together.
Overall, the students will learn about five major biomes in this lesson.
