Pixar Profile

"Pixar is a digital animation studio with the creative, technical and production capabilities to create a new generation of animated feature films and related products. The Company's objective is to create, develop and produce computer-animated feature films with a three-dimensional appearance. Since its inception, the Company has created and produced four full-length animated feature films, Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2 and Monsters, Inc., which were marketed and distributed by The Walt Disney Company." - Yahoo! Finance

Pixar entered into an agreement with Disney to co-finance, co-own, co-brand and share equally in the profits of five computer-animted feature-length films. Disney is in charge of the marketing and the distributing of the films. Only two films of this agreement have been completed as of now: A Bug's Life and Monsters, Inc. Toy Story was part of their first agreement for three films, but that contract was ended with the current contract. Toy Story 2 was not included as part of the five movie contract either.

Pixar has made many important breakthroughs in process of applying computer graphics in filmmaking. They have created three proprietory software systems . "Marionette™ is an animation software system for modeling, animating and lighting. Ringmaster™ is a production management software system for scheduling, coordinating and tracking a computer animation project. RenderMan® is a rendering software system for high-quality, photo-realistic image synthesis that Pixar uses internally and licenses to third parties." - Pixar

Pixar is doing very well financially. However, due to the economic status of the United States, Pixar's stock is down a little from their twelve month high of approximately $60 which was in December. An upturn could be expected after the release of Finding Nemo in May 2003.
