Biography


John Fillwalk is currently on faculty in the Electronic Art area at Ball State University. Prior to his appointment at Ball State, he had served in various capacities in the media arts, including chair of the Film, Video and Digital Arts Department at Minneapolis College and as education director and faculty at the Intermedia Arts program at the University of Minnesota. He received both his MA and MFA from the University of Iowa in Intermedia and Video Art, where he studied with Hans Breder, an internationally renowned intermedia artist. Fillwalk works and instructs in a variety of time-based and digital media including video, installation, digital imaging, interactive art and animation. As an artist, he has received numerous grants, awards and fellowships. Most recently, he was appointed the artist in residence at the Center for Media Design at Ball State University, as part of the $20 million dollar Eli Lilly Media Design Initiative. His most notable exhibitions include CYNETart in Dresden, Germany; SIGGRAPH 2003 and 2001 International Conference and Art Gallery; InteractivA ’03 at MACAY: Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Ateneo de Yucatán, Merida, Mexico; 2003 and 2002 Digital Art Competition: Beecher Center for Art and Technology, Butler Institute of American Art; SEAMUS 2004, San Diego, CA; iMOCA: Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art; Digital Sur, Rosalia, Argentina; the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and ASCI Digital '02 Exhibition, New York Hall of Science, NYC.
