Activity 2: Automated Mass Production

Assignment:

As a group, design, set up, execute, and assess a partially automated mass production system.

Limitations:

1. You are to work in teams assigned by the instructor.

2. The product must receive prior approval from the instructor.

3. The design of your system must receive the instructor's approval.

4. Make an attempt to automate several aspects of the system. However, there may still be many non-automated aspects.

5. All work must be performed in the AT 144, unless otherwise approved by the instructor.

6. All safety considerations must be observed at all times.

7. A minimum of 25 usable products must be produced, unless otherwise noted.

8. The production is to begin at a designated time.

9. The team members are responsible for procuring materials, sharing costs, dividing hands-on work and paperwork equitably, and for the disposition of the devices created.

10. The device must use a closed feedback loop where decisions are made independently of operator intervention.

Deliverables:

As a team, you are to submit:
1. completed products (in approved quantity and of specified quality).

2. a Web page (URL) containing information on design, construction, cost, operation, and other considerations. Please elaborate, including information on group process, detail drawings, photo's of the device and its products, a guide for first-time users, and a clear explanation of how the device functions. Use references as needed.

3. a 5-minute presentation to the class, including a demonstration.


In addition, each team member will individually submit:
4. A summary paragraph of your individual critique of the results of this activity.

5. An individual log noting that group member's contributions of work, time, materials, using the format listed below. Be sure to summarize the Hours and $ Contribution columns.
