Enjoy classical music from the Indiana Public Radio Library, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Here's our latest contest...

Many pieces of classical music have a nickname: Beethoven's Fifth Piano Concerto is the "Emperor" ... Mozart's Symphony No. 41 is known as the "Jupiter." Many of Haydn's symphonies have nicknames, by which they are commonly referred: "Farewell" (No. 45), "The Bear" (No. 82), "Surprise" (No. 94), "The Clock" (No. 101), among others. But No. 98 hasn't been given any such sobriquet --- until now...

Suggest a nickname (one or two words) for Haydn's Symphony No. 98 in B flat by June 30. Up to six suggested nicknames will be drawn, and we will put the matter to a vote during the month of July. The person whose nickname receives the most votes will be awarded a boxed CD set of Haydn's Twelve "London" Symphonies (Nos. 93-104)!

Listen to Morning Musicale for more details and to hear the last movement of Symphony No. 98 played several times per week.

To suggest a nickname, e-mail Steven or call (765) 285-5889. Either way, be sure to explain how you arrived at your choice of a nickname for this heretofore underappreciated symphony!
