Artwork Lesson Idea

Object:
The object of the activity is to make a visual and artistic connection between the two Romantic Era paintings to Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral.

Materials needed:
Printouts of the student worksheet
Printout, or link to the Unit Study for a visual of the artwork

Activity:
1.  Introduce the students to the artwork included with this Unit Study
2.  Hand out the worksheets (and also copies of the artwork)
3.  Explain the basic ideals of Romanticism in both art and music
4.  Have the students complete the worksheet on their own, inputting their own ideas as to how the music and art connect

Was the Object met?
The students should have a greater awareness of the music and art connection in the styles and trends used in the works created.

National Standards Addressed:
8.  Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.
-  The students compare Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral to the art works included.  This connection is between two disciplines in the fine arts.
