This is an awesome web site for parents to use with their children. There are several different activities that they can do with them. They stress how important it is for children to know how to read whether it's with a book or using the Internet. It explains how you can incorporate reading through using the Internet. By creating a web site with your child it will help them practice their writing and reading skills. It is also a great way for children and parents to work together.Book Adventure:
This is a fun and adventurous web site for parents and children to use. There are several different articles that give suggestions to parents for choosing the right book for their child. This web site is actually one of my favorite ones. I refer to it a lot when I am trying to think of lesson plans or activities that I can do with children. It gives many suggestions of different activities and lessons that can be done with any child. It also allows you to pick what subject area and grade level you are looking for. This is a really neat web site for children to use. It gives them the opportunity to write out some questions and send them in to a librarian. It will only take two days to get a response back and they will give you various web sites and resources that you can look at to help you get more information on whatever topic you may be researching. This web site allows children to practice their writing skills by sending an e-mail. It also allows them to work with the Internet and learn how to actually send e-mail to other people.Start Squad:
This is a wonderful site for children. It has great animation when the web site first comes up. It allows the children to pick which grade level they want to work on. They can choose from preschool, elementary, or middle school. It offers a variety of activities and web sites that are appropriate for children. I also liked this site because it also has suggestions for parents and teachers. It has several links for many people and allows children to have fun while getting educated.The Young Writers Club:
This is a great web site to encourage children to write. It is a great way for them to share what they have written with our peers and adults. It is completely free to join. Once you join children have access to several different web sites, where they can try different activities and test out their reading and writing ability. It also gives them the opportunity to practice using a computer and getting to know it better. Since, technology has grown so much over the last few years it is important for children to become familiar with the computer and its functions as early as possible.Tips for Young Writers:
This web site gives great suggestions to children who are trying to think of what they should write about. It shows them many examples of what a good topic might be. They suggested to children to keep a notebook of various information, so that they can refer back to it when writing a story. It gives suggestions for prewriting, how they can began their story, and what they should include in it. It also explains to them how to revise their work before publishing or turning it in.Word Central:
This is a great resource for children of all ages. It allows them to look up different words in the dictionary and comes up with definitions that the children can understand. It gives them other words that go along with the word that they choose. That way they can get several definitions at one time. The children can also make up their own dictionary providing definitions that other individuals can use. This is a great tool for children to build up their vocabulary, which will help them become a better reader and writer.
