Walton's primary responsibility during his eight seasons on Shondell's staff was recruiting coordinator. Over that period, he signed student-athletes who received All-America honors on eight occasions and all-MIVA recognition 13 times.
Walton, who played for Shondell from 1985-88, says he appreciates his mentor's confidence and is very grateful for the opportunity.
I really feel that this is the greatest coaching job in the nation and I look forward to the future challenges. My student-athletes and I relish the opportunity to continue the tradition of excellence that Coach Shondell has established.
