| MUNCIE, Ind.- Scoot Bushong is the only representative the state of Indiana on the Ball State Men's Volleyball team. He came to the team his sophomore year after playing his freshmen year on the highly successful Men's Basketball Team.
He knew he could be part of the team because Coach Walton recruited him out of high school and had left the door open to join the team if he decided to quit basketball. According to Walton, he recruited Scott in high school because he knew his father played here and there was potential in Scott, but Scott decided to play basketball instead. Scott competed in club volleyball his high school years because there was no varsity team on his school and he was an all-state selection his junior year in high school. He got really involved in it through gym class but he knew about his fathers volleyball career. His father, Stephen Bushong, was the MVP of the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) in 1974 and that was quite some footsteps to follow in, but Scott didn't see that as an obstacle. In fact it gave him motivation to learn and be the best volleyball player he can be. "Scott is pretty typical for what we get from Indiana, which is a good athlete, but somebody that we got to train to play the game of volleyball," said Walton. Scott doesn't mind being the only Hoosier on the team, he just accepts it and tries to learn from his teammates as much as possible. |
