| MUNCIE, Ind.- Senior Jary Delgado and Junior Luis Castera are special contributors to the Men's Volleyball team. They provide a spark unlike anybody else on the team. Both earned All-American honors at the Junior Olympics while attending high school and they provide great leadership both on and off the court.
This duo of Puerto Ricans feel very special to be competing at a Division I school in the NCAA. They were highly recruited coming out of high school due to their national and international experience. "I feel very lucky to be playing in this university because not to many players from Puerto Rico actually get the chance to come and play in the states," said Castera. Both Castera and Delgado had to wait their freshman years before actually coming to play at Ball State due to problems with the SAT. Delgado stayed in college in Puerto Rico and Castera played volleyball at Marycrest International University in Iowa. Both transferred after that. "I bring a lot of enthusiasm to the team because I try to unite the team be making up some chants and celebratory remarks, plus I have my trademark "plane" after I make a good block or kill in which I run all the way back to the back of the court," said Delgado. The team really feeds off Jary's quick play and they try to match his intensity of play and leadership when it comes down to game time. "Jary is a role model to our guys and brings a lot of leadership and experience that the team really enjoys," said Walton. Jary really enjoys being the spark of the team and appreciates the role he has on the team. "As for Luis, we really expect him to be a big contributor this year after we redshirted him last year," said Walton. The duo of Puerto Ricans are honored to be a special part of the team and really enjoy their roles of uniting the team. |
