Characteristics

Habitat: moist woods
Plant Height: 30-90 cm tall, erect stem
Flower Color: white
Flower: perfect;; complete; sepals obsolete; very small with 2 styles that extend beyond 5 petals, 5 stamens alternate with petals; styles equal to or longer than the petals
Inflorescence: compound, terminal umbels subtended by recurved bracts
Fruit: club-shaped and black, stick to clothing
Leaves: basal, cauline leaves alternate and 2-3 times divided, fern-like in appearance; stem and leaves smooth or nearly so
Bloom Time: May-June
Origins: native
Other: plants anise-scented; stems are glabrous or nearly so; compare with O. claytonia
