Plant Height: 10-30 cm; rhizome thick, stout
Flower Color: red (maroon)
Flower: complete; perfect; 3 spreading sepals; 3 narrow, erect petals; 6 stamens; ovary sharply 6-angled, superior; placentation axile
Inflorescence: sessile, solitary, terminal flower
Fruit: many-seeded berry
Leaves: April-June
Bloom Time: May-June
Origins: native
Other: also known as Toadshade Trillium; flowers of this species have slight aroma of dead, decaying animal tissue to attract flies and beetles as pollinators
