Characteristics

Habitat: rocks, cliffs and woods
Plant Height: 10-20 cm, scrambling, creeping stems; fibrous roots
Flower Color: white
Flower: complete; perfect; mostly with 4 petals; 4 sepals; sometimes 5 petals and 5 sepals; 1-1.5 cm wide; stamens typically twice as many as petals;
Inflorescence: solitary
Fruit: follicular (resembles follicles); seeds numerous
Leaves: opposite to whorled in 3s or 4s; entire; succulent; oblanceolate to nearly linear
Bloom Time: May-June
Origins: native
Other: plant likes to be cool and moist; attracts butterflies
