Characteristics

Habitat: Rich or dry  woods
Plant Height: 15-90 cm tall, erect stem
Flower Color: yellow
Flower: 1-4 cm across; 5-10 petals oblong; about twice as long as spreading sepals
Inflorescence: single, terminal flower
Fruit: achene; flat, subrotund or obovate with long beak
Leaves: alternate; palmately divided into 3 lobed or divided segments; basal leaves largest with blade at least as wide as it is long
Bloom Time: April-May
Origins: native
Other: stiff hairs on stems give plant its common name
