Characteristics

Habitat: moist meadows, disturbed areas, open woods, roadsides
Plant Height: 20-40 cm tall
Flower Color: white and yellow
Flower: perfect; complete with calyx and corolla nearly indistinguishable creating 6 tepals that are fused at base; corona (floral cup) fringed with red, yellow below; stamens 6; single style leading to inferior 3-loculed ovary
Inflorescence: single, nodding flower terminating stem
Fruit: capsule
Leaves: simple; entire; basal; linear; typically as long as the scape (flowering stem)
Bloom Time: April-May
Origins: non-native
Other: European native has escaped from cultivation; plant toxic, narcotic; see also N. pseudonarcisus
