Characteristics

Habitat: moist, rich woods, partial-full shade
Plant Height: 10-40 cm, erect purplish-red stems from fibrous roots
Flower Color: white
Flower: perfect; incomplete; 1-2 cm wide; stamens 10-40; pistils 4-7; sepals white, 5 (sometimes 4); petals absent
Inflorescence: single flower terminating stem
Fruit: follicles with persistent style
Leaves: alternate; deeply divided 3-lobed leaves; basal leaves on long petiole; stipules at base of cauline leaves
Bloom Time: April-May
Origins: native
