Habitat: moist woods and disturbed habitats, prefers shaded areas
Plant Height:  to 20 cm, creeping long stems can reach 2.1 m (7') long
Flower Color: purple/blue
Flower: perfect; upper lib lobed; notched at apex; lower lip 3-lobed; spotted with dark purple; stamens 4; long style with 2-lobed stigma 
Inflorescence: 2 or more flowers in axillary clusters 
Fruit: nut
Leaves: opposite; generally reniform to cordate with wavy edges
Bloom Time: March-July
Origins: non-native
Other: European in origin, this plant is a common lawn weed; plant sends out roots at nodes and spreads rapidly; leaves once used to help ferment or flavor beer; also known as ground ivy
