Scientific Name Galanthus nivalis  L.

Characteristics

Habitat: moist areas, most woodlands
Plant Height: 15-20 cm, erect stem
Flower Color: white
Flower: complete; perfect; 3 prominent sepals and 3 petals tinged with green; 6 stamens; 6 pistils fused with 3 carpels
Inflorescence: single, drooping flower at end of long pedicle
Fruit: berry with 3 carpels
Leaves: linear,  generally 2 or 3 per bulb
Bloom Time: February-March
Origins: non-native
Other: originally found in Europe and Western Asia, this plant has escaped cultivation; entire plant is poisonous due to alkaloids present, can cause nausea; similar to Leucojum aestivum
