Characteristics

Habitat: moist woods
Plant Height: 10-20 cm, erect stem
Flower Color: yellow
Flower: 3 yellow sepals; 3 yellow petals; sepals and petals reflexed; 6 stamens, adnate to base of petals and sepals, anthers yellow; stigma white, 3 styles; ovary superior; 2.5 cm wide
Inflorescence: single terminal flower 
Fruit: many-seeded capsule
Leaves: 2 basal leaves mottled with red/brown; single leaves on non-flowering plants
Bloom Time: April-May
Origins: native
Other: extensively colonial; in Central Indiana the Erythronium  are ususally done blooming by the third week of April; see also E. albidum
