Characteristics

Habitat: waste places, fields, lawns
Plant Height: 15-30 cm; stems erect to decumbent
Flower Color: white
Flower: complete; perfect; 5 deeply notched petals, about as long as 5 green sepals; 10 stamens; 5 styles; ovary with 1 locule
Inflorescence: terminal, loose cymes; pedicles can be long
Fruit: small, cylindrical, many-seeded capsule
Leaves: hairy; sessile; opposite
Bloom Time: April-October
Origins: non-native
Other: this short-lived perennial is native to Eurasia; similar genus Stellaria   not hairy and only  has 3 styles, Cerastium  has 5
