Education

I am committed to being the best resource for students who are taking Spanish. I believe that every student can benefit from any foreign language, and that it is the teachers responsibility to provide the environment to make that happen. Teaching a foreign language does something more than teach the ability to speak that language; it teaches community, fosters development of self, and promotes awareness not only of other cultures, but of the very culture that we live in today.

I am also dedicated to utilizing the resources that are available in the schools and in the community, specifically in the areas of technology. The possibilities with technology are endless, and the skills students acquire through the use of technology are the building blocks for their future careers. Each project that incorporates interdisciplinary approaches, multimedia, and group cooperation, develops the student's communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

I believe that as an educator, it is my duty to reach out to all the students, and bring that diverse group together as a class and community. It is also imperative that I connect my foreign language to the students' personal lives and surroundings, so that they too can see those connections. I feel that by incorporating real-life applications into the classroom, students are better able to understand the Hispanic community and language.

As a teacher, I am constantly aware of reflective practices that allow me to evaluate my lessons, methods, and assessments on a daily basis. I also seek out professional development through a variety of resources such as conferences, colleagues, and the community.
