"Converting" the EDTEC Minor to a Teaching License

Minors are being phased out of recognition as part of teaching licensure (although they remain as a degree option for some programs). In addition, new type of teaching license has emerged in recent years called the "add-on" or "non-stand-alone" teaching license. Add-on licenses complement your main license and increase your marketability in the field. If you are a student in an academic program that permits minors, or if you are a candidate for a Rules 46/47 teaching license, you should consider using the 15-hour EDTEC Minor as the foundation for the 21-hour Computer Education Teaching License. The remaining 6 hours for the license can be completed any time, including at the graduate level. Here is a suggested plan of study for completing the minor and the license at the undergraduate level:

A suggested EDTEC Minor course selection for teacher education majors:
  • EDTEC 352 or 355
  • EDTEC 360 or 365
  • EDTEC 480
  • EDTEC 350
  • EDTEC 470

Suggested undergraduate courses necessary to complete the Computer Education Teaching License:
  • SPCED 331
  • EDTEC 485
