Alabama 

The Jacksonville State Center offered an Econ and Lit workshop at the Oxford, AL Books-a-Million, Youth Entrepreneurial Camp and took graduate student to New York City.   Full Story.

Alaska

The Alaska Council on Economic Education and the Center for Economic Education at the University of Alaska-Anchorage are currently sponsoring their 12th Annual Spring Economics Forum for 180 Anchorage-area teachers. The theme of this year's Forum "Government and The Economy:  Striking the Right Balance."   Full Story.

California

Economics education in California has taken a big step forward at CSU Fresno in credentialing elementary teachers.  A $10,000 grant was awarded by the CSU Institute for Teaching and Learning to Jim Charkins, CSU San Bernardino, for his "Economics for Teachers" proposal.  CSU Fresno's School of Education announced that Don Leet was the recipient of the 2000 Richter Award for Excellence in Education.  Walfred J. Fassler, chairman of the California Council, introduced a recognition program to honor individuals for their outstanding contributions to economic literacy in California.  Full Story

Florida

The University of North Florida Center for Economic Education, in cooperation with the Florida Council on Economic Education, recently presented a Foundation for Teaching Economics (FTE) dinner seminar on Global Trade.  Teachers participated in the Bank of America Personal Finance Project and in the Duval Superintendent's Awards Program and the Strive to Drive Program.  Public, private and home schools are actively involved with the StockTrack-Florida Stock Market Simulation for the spring term.  The required high school economics course in Duval County was transferred  from the 9th to the 12th grade.  During June, the UNF Center will coordinate Camp Entrepreneur for teen girls, ages 14-17 who have completed the ninth grade. Hawaii

Gail Tamarabuchi is on sabbatical this semester.  Jerry Linville is the new executive director for the Hawaii Council.  Full Story.

Illinois

The Illinois Council celebrates its 50th Anniversary!  The new Center for Economic Education at the University of Illinois-Chicago is growing rapidly.

Maryland

Center Directors Ho Nguyen and Pat Watson will provide a unique and varied venue for visiting teachers from Russia and Ukraine.  The Maryland Council borrows an idea from Illinois.  The Maryland Council will host five regional awards programs to recognize "regional" winners in the SMGWW game.  CEEM will hold its third annual golf outing.  The Maryland Council created an 8-minute video for use by the staff and board in fund raising and board recruitment. Minnesota

The Minnesota Council on Economic Education has completed teacher in-service under a major grant from the Minnesota legislature to implement economics in the state graduation requirements. The Council offers  a week-long workshop integrating the economics of food and agriculture into the secondary curricula.   Full Story.

Missouri

The St. Louis Center presented its newest curriculum, Labor Works for You, at the annual conference.   The Dec2000/Jan2001 issue of Cosmo-Girl! Magazine featured the winner of the center's 2000 Entrepreneurship Fair, Eboni McCollum.  The Missouri Council has been fortunate in bringing former Missouri Commissioner of Education, Dr. Arthur Mallory, back to assume the position of Chair of the Missouri Council.  Full Story

Pennsylvania

The Robert Morris College Center for Economic Education had an international theme with several programs in 2000.  2000 was an enterprising year for the University of Pittsburgh Center for Economic Education.  The Gannon University Center recently finished a Stock Market Game extended workshop.  Full Story

South Carolina

The South Carolina Council on Economic Education is delivering a series of twenty workshops across the state that focus on the new Social Studies Standards.   Full Story.

Wisconsin

The Centers for Economic Education at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh are teaching a new course, Economic Education for Teachers, which is being offered totally over the Internet.          Full Story.
