Safety Equipment #2
| Fire Extinguishers |
Fire Extinguishers
In the event of the a fire, a fire extinguisher can be used to put out
or
control a fire until the fire department arrives. However, if you
do
not know how to use it, a fire extinguisher can be a useless
tool.
You should make yourself aware of how to use one and when to use
it.
In our lab, if a fire is to break out, alert everyone to the fire, pull
the
fire alarm and follow your teachers instructions. |
Fire Blanket
|
Fire Blanket
A fire blanket is used to smother fires that have started on someone's
clothing.
If you were to catch fire; remember to stop, drop and roll and the
blanket
will then be used to smother the fire. The fire blanket also has
the
role of a disrobing shield if the emergency shower is used. |
Eye Wash Stations
|
Eye Wash Stations
In the case that your goggles fail and chemicals or gases get into your
eyes,
the eye wash stations should be used. The eye wash stations
provide
a constant flow of water into the eyes for long periods of time. |
Emergency Shower
|
Emergency Shower
If chemicals were to spill on someone or their clothing, harmful
effects could
occur within a short amount of time depending on the chemical.
Therefore,
a shower is provided so that those chemicals can be flushed off the
affected
person as soon as possible. If you were to have an incident occur
in
which we needed to use the shower, please remember, your safety is more
important
than being embarrassed. |
Emergency Gas
Shut-off |
Emergency Gas Shut-off
In the case that an emergency occurs with our gas supply, the emergency
gas
shut-off button should be pushed. Once the gas is shut off, only
your
teacher can restart the gas when the emergency has passed. |
