The
Counseling Practicum Clinic is on the sixth floor of the Teachers College
building in room 621 on the Ball State campus. The Teachers College building is
on the northwest corner of McKinley and Riverside. The clinic is open from
8 A.M. to 9 P.M., Monday through Thursday, and Fridays from 8 A.M. to noon
during the academic year (August to May). Summer hours are similar, but
vary. The clinic is closed during university vacation times and holidays.
The counselors at the clinic are primarily graduate students in
counseling psychology under the supervision of faculty. Some faculty members
also provide direct counseling. The clinic is a training and research
facility for the Department of Counseling Psychology and Guidance
Services. Each semester there are approximately forty-five graduate
students providing counseling services and occasionally conducting research.
Counseling may be delivered on an individual or group basis. Groups may
focus on parenting, social skills, anger control, issues of concern to children
and adolescents, or other topics.
There
is a small fee for services received at the clinic. The money from this fee goes
toward buying material related to the operation of the clinic. No
clients will be denied services because of inability to pay.
All
clients have the right to receive
timely, competent counseling services consistent with the ethical principles and
guidelines established by
professional organizations. All counseling services provided at the
Counseling Practicum Clinic are guided by
the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct, the Code of Ethics
and Standards of Practice of the American Counseling Association, the General
Guidelines for Providers of Psychological Services, and the Specialty Guidelines
for the Delivery of Services by Counseling Psychologists.
