Neighborhood Support Initiative
In a collaboration with the City of Muncie, urban planning and development students undertook intensive research and analysis in many neighborhoods in Muncie.  Select a neighborhood from the menu or map below for more information, detailed maps, and downloadable documents.  You can also view a similar 1999 neighborhood study project that received a Best Practices Award from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The completion of the neighborhood profiles has provided an opportunity to take the data and combine it into focus areas. To do this, the City of Muncie was divided into three overall study areas, each with its own identity. Continuing with the South Muncie Initiative, the boundaries for South Muncie were used as one of these study areas.

These areas can be described as:

  • South Muncie - Bound by the southern half of the city limit boundary and the railroad just south of the Muncie Central Business District.  South Muncie Profile
  • North Muncie – Bound by the northern and eastern city limit boundaries, Wheeling Avenue and the White River in the west, and the railroad in the south.
  • West Muncie/BSU – Bound by the northern and western city limit boundaries, Wheeling Avenue and the White River in the south and east.
